Modeling and Measurement of Mode-Conversion and Frequency Dependent Loss in High-Speed Differential Interconnections on Multilayer PCB

چکیده
We propose an accurate and efficient model of having an unbalanced differential line structure, where mode-conversion and frequency dependent loss effects are considered in above the GHz frequency range. To extract model parameters of the proposed unbalanced differential line model, we measured s-parameters of test patterns using a 2-port VNA and defined a new type of mixed-mode s-parameter. The model parameters were obtained and are described for various types of the unbalanced differential line structures. Finally, the validity of the proposed model and the model parameters were successfully confirmed by a series of time-domain measurements and a lattice diagram analysis. key words: mode-conversion, unbalanced differential line, mixed-mode s-parameter, serial interconnection, frequency dependent loss

In high speed digital systems with signals at 20 Gb/s, standard approaches used to study the signal integrity at PCB and package level are not valid anymore. IBIS models are no longer accurate and H-spice transient simulations face convergence and stability problems. With the increased operational frequency the metal losses of standard transmission lines at PCB level are not only related to the...
متن کاملImportance and Limitations of Modeling Parasitic Capacitance between Package and PCB for Power Bus Noise and Radiation
Power and ground planes on multilayer PCBs can effectively radiate electromagnetic fields excited by the IC simultaneous switching noise. The high frequency electromagnetic radiation is often calculated from the electric field along the edge of the PCB, which can be estimated with a cavity model using magnetic walls. The excitation of the cavity modes is related to the via current passing throu...

SpaceWire interconnection using a backplane which makes a system compact has been investigated. In the backplane interconnection system, high-speed signals are connected between daughter boards via connectors and a backplane. The connectors used to interface the daughter boards and the backplane are key components because the impedance mismatching and the transmission loss in the connector migh...
